March 21st to 26th 2017 was my first series of Tea Events (a 'Tea Retreat' if you will) at Le Moulin de Leymonie, the home of renowned potter Sylph Baier. What a lovely week it was!
Set in the main hall of the restored 17th Century Mill and using teaware specially made for the occasion by Sylph from Limoges porcelain, guests enjoyed a range of events. Tea Tasting (learning about the six families of tea) and a Brewing Masterclass were of course, essential. A talk on the Histories and Traditions of British Tea Culture followed by tea & scones brought up fascinating facts and interesting questions. Then to finish it all off, a sumptuous afternoon tea of six home-baked courses, each paired with the perfect tea.
The wonderful setting, beautiful teaware, keen and interested guests made this a week to remember.
Many pleasant hours also passed, deep in discussion with Sylph about teaware. Shapes, sized, uses, functionality, form and aesthetics. As a result Sylph and I are going to be collaborating on a number of specially designed teaware pieces in Limoges porcelain. Initially using simple yet sumptuous clear glazes that reveal the natural beauty of the porcelain itself. Though we did discuss and experiment with taste transfer on a couple of other exciting glazes as well. I'm discussing with Sylph how we can offer these unique pieces on 'Sourced by Kyle' so do get in touch if I've piqued your interest fellow ceramic fiends!
We're currently looking at dates for Autumn 2017 and Spring 2018. We're hoping to run individual as well as day courses (with lunch) for both Autumn and Spring dates. Please email me if you're interested and I'll get in touch as soon as we have dates.
