About the event
With a full Chaji lasting over four hours and requiring intimate knowledge of the Japanese way of tea (Tea Ceremony) from the guests as well, it's something that few get to experience. Especially outside of Japan.
During the summer I held my first Chaji for the Tea Teacher in Paris as part of my study of the Japanese way of tea. And what a profound experience it was too. So I want to try something new, and bring a little taste of that amazing experience to you, in a way that will be easier to access and appreciate for guests without needing prior knowledge of the Tea Ceremony already.
Instead of the usual four plus hours, we'll take just a couple of hours. I'll be mixing formal elements from a proper Chaji with more informal elements so that we have to time to chat and enjoy the experience together. Guests will enjoy a formal temae (the 'ceremony' of preparing matcha), a few light dishes inspired by traditional Kaiseki cuisine as well as servings of hand-picked sencha just arrived from Japan and a seasonal sweet.
During the more formal temae element of the evening, guests are encouraged to join me in the meditative quality of the Tea Ceremony, taking a pause from the hustle of life to connect and experience the depth of the Japanese way of tea.
In order for guests to fully enjoy the Chaji experience, I'm limiting numbers to just 4 people (so book quickly). If you cant make this date but are interested, please email me as I hope to do another soon.
NOTE: if you can't make it for 6pm, it's not a problem. We'll drink tea and chat while we wait for you. Please do let me know in this case.
Please graciously respect my private home. We have two gorgeous cats, Fish & Chips who will be around, but they're very friendly so don't worry. I kindly ask that shoes are removed when you arrive (so wear funky socks ;) )
Because this is in my private home, I will provide you with full address details once you have booked. Nearest stations are Blackwall DLR or All Saints DLR though it is also possible to walk from Canary Wharf.
